Benefits of flaxseed
- Flaxseeds are a true concentrate of Omega-3s and other valuable substances.
- 100 g of flaxseed contains as much as 27.3 g of fibre! It is important that 20-40% soluble. Flaxseeds are rich in lutein and zeaxanthin, which are particularly valuable for maintaining eye health, as well as other essential antioxidants such as phenolic compounds and flavonoids.
- The fibre, protein and fat in these seeds create a longer-lasting feeling of satiety.
- Flaxseeds are rich in vitamins and minerals: vitamin B6, folate, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, calcium, iron, zinc, copper and selenium.
- Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for our cell membranes and nervous system.
How to use?
Flaxseed should be taken ground with plenty of liquid (water, juice).
However, if whole flaxseeds are to be used, it is recommended that they are swollen in warm water before use. The beneficial properties of flaxseed are enhanced and revealed when flaxseed is mixed with honey or jam.
It is important to stress that flaxseed oil is not suitable for frying, as it not only loses its nutrients when heated, but also releases trans-fatty substances that are harmful to the body at high temperatures.
Grind flaxseeds and use them in porridges, yoghurt, kefir, healthy green smoothies and cottage cheese.
It can also be added to salads, sauces, stews or soup just before eating.
Ground flaxseeds can be stored in an airtight container for up to six months and will not lose their nutritional properties.
