Description

Organic juniper berries
Juniper berries have been used for centuries – since ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman times – for their medicinal and culinary properties. Traditionally, they have been used to improve digestion, treat urinary tract infections and as a natural antiseptic. Juniper berries are rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds.

The recommended dose is usually 1-2 grams of dried berries per day.
When consumed in moderation, they are generally safe.
Their strong diuretic properties can be problematic for people with kidney problems. They can cause allergic reactions in some people. Pregnant women should avoid them because of the potential risks.

In European cuisine, juniper berries are used in marinades, in tanning mixtures, to flavour sauces or as the main ingredient in gin. They are most commonly used as a spice, an ingredient in herbal teas.
Dried juniper fruit is used to flavour vegetable dishes, especially bean dishes.
Juniper berries are often used in Scandinavian, French and German cuisines. When used in combination with garlic and herbs (marjoram, rosemary, thyme), it adds a specific flavour to dishes.
